Solent rally again

Postby Dytiscus Rubra » Tue Jun 15, 2010 4:44 pm

Hello all and those in the know !

Do we know how many people are attending the rally this year. I am antifouling DR soon and I need to know how low she will sit in the water when stocked with sufficient beer !

All the best,
Col.

Hi,

The last time I checked, I believe we had 2 possibles and 4 yes's.
I think we may be a little down on numbers this year, and the little boats seem to be dwindling which is a shame.
As for how low she'll sit in the water.....that all depends on how much capacity you have for beer!

It's still early days, the Rally is another month off yet so we will probably have a few more takers before then.
What colour anti fouling are you going for?

H

My goodness just six boats !!

DR has been pooly and I have just got back this evening from doing major surgery on the engine. Some of it was just wear and tear "heat exchanger rotted" Gearbox slipping, but the other bit was I am afraid me allowing too much water to collect in the engine bilge Eeeeek. A magazine mention about this to come !

This has put me back a week or so but now the mechanics are as sweet as a nut.

There is an awful lot on YBW about what colour antifoul to use. Many are upset as it looks the advertised colour when on the hard but goes a different shade when its been wet for a couple of weeks. I think some have too much time on their hands ? I have a couple of helpers next weekend so it will be washed and two coats of whatever colour is cheapest then ready for the mamouth hop around to Southern waters.

Hope we have a bit of last minute interest.

All the best, Col.

Boats are a bugger when they don't behave aren't they! As for the antifouling, may i suggest black? It doesn't reflect light and therefore doesn't attract as many clingons as other colours.

Ah Never seen a black bottom before and did not realise it was on the shelf ? Sounds a good idea so black it is. I move out of the basin Friday to dry on the slip Sat morning.
What are the pre rally plans this year ? Are any folk meeting at Bucklers Hard ?

Hi, yep, Kasmari will be at Bucklers Hard on the friday, probably joined by Mike aboard Seajay and Tony and co on Dytiscus IV. Will you be joining us there? It's been 3 weeks since I came back from Greece and I can't wait to be back on the water! How many will be on your boat this year? H x
