Mainsheet Traveler stops

Postby genglandoh » Sun Jul 25, 2010 2:19 am

I am refitting my K20.
The mainsheet traveler is just a simple bar with no stops.
So I was looking for a way to add adjustable stops for the traveler.

I went to a hardware store (http://www.lowes.com) and found a mini tube cutter for $3.13.
Just remove the cutting wheel and it becomes a nice tube or bar clamp

Hi,
What a good idea. On Our Request I have a short length of string !!! ok rope which I lash atound the traveller uprights and then onto the locking mechanism to get that extra 600mm or so of sheeting in when tight to the wind.
All the best,
Colin

Hey Ohio!

Now that is one elegant solution. It's gonna take all my strength of character to not take credit for it! A couple of us were just arguing lately about the best lashing knots for stopping things from sliding along a post, railing or bar (I wanted to place a block and tackle on my pulpit while lowering the mast). Consider your idea robbed. Thanks and good sailing!

Sorry for my ignorance, but mine has no stops either.
what are we supposed to do with this setting if we had it ?
As a simple - yes - very simple day sailor, would it make much difference to me ?

My jib cars are also stuck, adjuster heads have broken off, same question really, does it make much of a diiference to me.

Thanks for any help, but not answered yours, sorry.

The mainsheet traveler with stops will control the position of the boom better, making the sail shape better and giving you better sailing performance. The biggest improvement is being able to point higher into the wind.

The jib cars also will adjust the jibs sail shape again giving you better performance.

But in the big picture the K20 is not a performance sailboat so the little added performance is not that important.
